Two Armed Robbers Burnt Alive in Onitsha

TWO suspected armed robbers were on Monday burnt to death in Onitsha, Anambra State.


The incident occurred along the Old Road, Nkpor, near an old generation bank.

The suspects, who were said to have operated on a motorbike, had snatched a bag containing cash from a lady who just withdrew the money from a nearby bank.

Eyewitnesses told Southern City News that the robbers snatched the money at gunpoint, but people around, who noticed what was happening gave them a chase, caught them, beat them with clubs, stoned them before setting them ablaze.

Gunmen Kill Pastor of The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries

Unknown gunmen, Monday, shot dead Lagos State Coordinator of The Lord’s Chosen Charis-matic Revival Ministries, Pastor Chukwuemeka Okpokpo, at Apple Junction, Amuwo Odofin area of the state.

The gunmen, said to have used a motorcycle, reportedly trailed the deceased from a Diamond Bank branch, where he had gone to withdraw N3 million for the church.

They reportedly fired shots into the air, which sent other road users and passers-by scampering for safety.

Reports said Pastor Okpokpo tried to escape when it became obvious that he was the target.

He reportedly slowed down on reaching a bad spot in the road, and the hoodlums shot at the tyres of the Chosen vehicle he was driving, bringing the vehicle to an abrupt halt.

One of the gunmen then alighted from their motorbike, walked to the vehicle and shot Pastor Okpokpo in the stomach.

Residents of the Mathare slum area of Kenya's capital, Nairobi, are now able to access water through an ATM-style dispenser.

People living in slums traditionally rely on vendors, who are expensive, or polluted sources to get drinking water.

Taliban Hit Afghanistan Parliament


The Taliban have carried out a co-ordinated attack on the Afghan parliament in the capital, Kabul, where heavy fighting is still going on.

Attackers detonated a huge car bomb outside the building, before racing into parliament itself, reports say.

Police are evacuating the premises, while trying to fight off the attackers.

Pakistan Heatwave Killed 120 People


More than 120 people have died during a heatwave in Pakistan's southern Sindh province.

Health officials say most of the deaths have been in Karachi, which has seen temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius (113 deg F) in recent days.

The city has seen power cuts, caused by an increased demand for electricity caused by the extreme weather.

The head of the emergency department at Jinnah Hospital in Karachi said the majority of the victims were elderly.

Rivers State Governor Sacked 344 Lectures


Following the sack of 344 lecturers and other members of staff of Rivers State Polytechnic by the state governor, Nyesome Wike, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the action, saying it was ill-motivated and therefore should be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.

According to a statement issued yesterday in Abuja and signed by its President, Comrade Tijani Usman, called on the governor to rescind his decision in the interest of progress.

Flood Emerges in Lagos Again


Persistent rains in Lagos, especially in the last two days, have brought woes to its residents as they battle the impact of floods in the coastal city-state.

Whilst the rains lasted, cars were stuck in gutters, houses submerged and buildings with weak foundations brought down.

Although no life was lost in the resultant floods, residents yesterday lamented the untold hardships the rains had inflicted on them.

Buhari Have Moved to Aso Rock Villa


Twenty three days after taking the oath of office, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday moved into his official residence, the Aso Villa in Abuja.

Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo operated from the Defence House, Abuja after their inauguration to allow renovation of the facilities at the sprawling Villa.
